About the Speaker
Chris is an experienced computational biologist specialising in translational genomics, with a career spanning academia and industry across precision oncology, rare disease, and model organisms. Most recently, at Geneseq Biosciences, he contributed to the development of a world first-in-class blood test for detecting invasive melanoma through miRNA profiling, and has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications over the course of his career. With international and multi-domain experience, from postgraduate work in comparative genomics of polyploid crop species, through core faculty roles, to a transition into cancer research and precision oncology, he has an extensive background in applied uses of bioinformatics.
In his talk titled “Crops to Cancer: A Global Bioinformatics Journey”, Chris will reflect on his varied journey and share his perspectives on building a career in bioinformatics — a field driven by the pace of technological change and the constant opportunity to learn.
