ISCB Wikipedia Competition (2013)

The International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) is again running an international competition to improve the coverage on Wikipedia of computational biology and bioinformatics.

From the announcement:

A key component of the ISCB’s mission to further the scientific understanding of living systems through computation is to communicate this knowledge to the public at large. Wikipedia has become an important way to communicate all types of science to the public. The ISCB aims to further its mission by increasing the quality of Wikipedia articles about computational biology, and by improving accessibility to this information via Wikipedia. The competition is open to students and trainees at any level either as individuals or as groups.

First prize is $500 USD and ISCB membership for one year.  For further information:

The competition closes on the 10th of January, 2014.

Edit-a-thons

COMBINE would like to encourage all students of bioinformatics and computational biology around Australia to enter. Besides being a great chance to hone your skills in science communication, it might help you meet others in the field.

Sign up to the competition, and if you would like some help or a chance to meet peers, register your interest below in attending an edit-a-thon.

We will hold as many as we can!
