The packed program will see 37 national and international speakers talk on four different topics over the course of the week: Next generation sequencing & bioinformatics, Data science and machine learning for bioinformatics, Bio-data analysis and visualisation, and Advanced microscopy analysis and modelling. Sessions consist of mixed formats such as lectures, software demonstrations, and interactive discussions. Speakers aim to present cutting-edge research and concepts in an inclusive way that can be understood by a non-specialist audience.

The Winter School is a great opportunity for COMBINE members to learn about new concepts or solidify their understanding of current technologies from invited lecturers including national and international leaders in their fields. Keynote speakers this year include Prof. John Quackenbush from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Prof. Melissa Little from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Prof. Seán O’Donoghue from CSIRO and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Dr Simone Linz from The University of Auckland, and Dr Joshua Ho from the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

As well as being proud to support and promote this event, COMBINE will also be hosting an associated networking event. This will be open to Winter School participants as well as anyone else in the Brisbane area who is interested. The networking event will take place at Saint Lucy’s Cafe at The University of Queensland from 5.30 pm onwards on Thursday 5th July. These events are a great way to socialise and connect with other researchers in the field and unwind after a busy day of learning and discussion at the Winter School.
